Read and Write EXT4, EXT3 or EXT2 Partitions in Windows with Ext2Fsd

- Windows got some tools such as Ext2Read to access EXT4,EXT3 and EXT2 files systems or partitions remaining from Windows platform. But they are specialized to explore, read and view the files in these file systems or partitions only. Well if you want to read as well as write these partitions from Windows, you can use Ext2Fsd.
Ext2Fsd is an opensource file system driver for Windows that allows you to access EXT4, EXT3 and EXT2 files systems from Windows environment. It works in Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7. Using Ext2FSD, all of your EXT partitions will be displayed just like the native NTFS or FAT partitions making it accessible from Windows explorer.
You can install Ext2Fsd by the download link given at the end of the post. Once installed, you have to restart the system to launch it.
Ext2Fsd has read and write support for EXT2/EXT3 file systems where as read only for EXT4. Though you can force it to write EXT4, it is not recommended. If you want to enable the write support for EXT4 file system, you can right-click the partition and select Ext2 Management.Ext2Fsd can be used to temporarily mount the drives which will be lost after a reboot or mount them permanently.The mounted drives are displayed in My computer. Similarly, you can change mount point or drive letters.
Note that even if EXT4 file system is mounted, it is still displayed as EXT3 in the Ext2Fsd.
Then, you can uncheck the Mount volume in readonly mode box and click Apply.
Some of its other specific features to mention are that fsck and checksum can be performed while mounted on Windows.
